Vernell Hunter was born in Athens, TX on April 6, 1954, to the parentage of Rev. Pete and Iola Hunter.
In his early years, he accepted the Lord at an early age and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. He later regularly attended Behind the Veil Church. He received his education at Athens High School and attended college at East Texas State University and Stephen F. Austin Sate University. He worked many years at Curtis Mathis (later known as Harvey Industries) and worked over 30 years as a Correctional Officer at Texas Department of Criminal Justice until retirement. After retirement, he worked for Athens Independent School District as a School Bus Driver.
He enjoyed fixing up his old classic cars, attending car shows, and was a handyman who could fix anything. He also enjoyed attending his daughter's and grandchildren’s sporting events, and spending time with his family.
Vernell was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Pete and Iola Hunter, and his brothers, Rogers Hunter and Leroy Hurd.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 42 years: Gina Hunter, daughters: Brandi Hill, RaTonya Hunter, grandchildren: Raveon Rodriguez, Akyli Rodriguez, Alizjah Davis, sister: Gloria Hunter, nephews: Michael (Sharon) Hunter, Michael Hunter II, Jarvis Pierce, Regos Moore, nieces: Robbie Davis, Renee Carter, LaVon Williams, sister in laws: Wanda Hill, Terri Hill, Lurna (Sam) Cumby, brother in laws: Michael Hill (Deshun), Greg (Maria) Sanders, Lawrence Sanders, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
