Annie Pearl Fowlks was born to Miller Bryant Fowlks and Essex Fowlks III in Elmo, Texas on August 16, 1936. She transitioned to be with the Lord on December 8, 2024.
Annie Pearl Fowlks graduated from Burnett High School in Terrell Texas in 1954. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Prairie View A&M College of Texas (later renamed Prairie View A&M University of Texas) in 1958, and later earned a Masters degree in Education from Prairie View A&M University of Texas in 1983. Annie advanced her religious education via a diploma from the Southern Bible Institute in 2006.
In 1958, Annie Pearl Fowlks and Rev. Walter Gene Collins were married and four sons were born through this union: Anthony, Derrick, Waylon, and Reginald.
Annie had a multi-decade long career as a school teacher. She taught at several schools in various school districts in Texas, including Galveston, Crandall, Dallas and Terrell.As the wife of the late Rev. Walter G. Collins, Annie devoted much of her time in service to Shiloh Baptist Church in Terrell, Texas and Greater St. James Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. She enjoyed taking an active role in a variety of Church programs, including teaching in Vacation Bible School, serving as a member of the Mission Chorus, and active in the Women's Mission Union, among other roles.
Specifically at Greater St. James Baptist Church, her most recent church home, she was for many years, the Church First Lady, Leader Of Church Sanctuary Beautification Committee (Took care of the sanctuary flowers), Leader of the Quarterly Birthday Celebrations Committee, worker in Sunday School, worker in the Women's Mission Union and in her mission circle (Naomi Circle), member of the Mission Chorus, Vacation Bible School Teacher and Vacation Bible School Leader (Working in arts and crafts), Chairperson for the Women's Day programs (Held once a year in October), Recognized as Woman of the Year (October 27, 1996).
Annie was preceded in death by husband, Rev. Walter G. Collins, siblings, Essex Fowlks IV, Willie “Jack” Fowlks, and Charles Fowlks. She is survived by: siblings, Joyce Fowlks Fort, Dr. Edison R. Fowlks, and Stanley Fowlks; Sons, Anthony Collins, Derrick Collins (Tira), Waylon Collins, and Reginald Collins; Cherished Mothers of her grandchildren, Tira Collins, Carmen Betterson-Collins, and Andrea White;Grandchildren, Jasmine Collins, Cole Collins, Kyle Collins, Dallas Collins, Gabrielle Collins, Charmaine Betterson, Jason Betterson, and Everett Monroe; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Annie enjoyed her time with her family greatly and was very active in raising her four sons and in planning and hosting several family reunions, alongside her siblings and cousins.Annie was put on this Earth to do what can be summarized as follows: Dedication to the Lord, determination to raise four sons and to make sure they were properly educated, and the desire to help others. Finally, she maintained a vibrant demeanor that exuded love, kindness, and happiness.
